Hudson named Lead Librarian for Discovery Systems

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Cole Hudson to the position of Lead Librarian for Discovery Systems effective 28 May 2019.

Cole HudsonIn this role, Hudson will lead the Discovery Systems unit in the Libraries Information Technology department. He will manage development and support of the core systems that provide access to the Libraries’ print and electronic resources, including SirsiDynix Symphony, ILLiad, Blacklight, EZproxy, and the CORAL ERM, as well as a variety of other open source and locally developed applications that promote resource discovery and delivery and improve staff workflows. He will collaborate with Libraries and consortial stakeholders to identify areas of need, defining requirements and managing software development to meet those needs. He will also work with the Digital Library Initiatives department and other Libraries developers to identify relevant best practices and define effective workflows for application development across the organization. 

Hudson currently serves as the Digital Publishing Librarian at Wayne State University (WSU) Libraries where he manages and develops digitization workflows and procedures as well as the digital collections repository. He has developed and maintained a Fedora Commons-based digital repository with a focus on digital preservation and access. He assists in library publishing efforts and develops and implements a variety of library tools, including WSU Libraries’ bento box search application and its online book shelf viewer. Additionally, Hudson has been co-Principal Investigator for an LSTA-funded grant that has developed a statewide digital portal for the state of Michigan’s DPLA service hub consortium. 

Hudson received his Master of Library and Information Science from Rutgers University with a specialization in Digital Libraries. He has also earned a Master of Arts in English at the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Arts in Music and English at Arkansas Tech University.
